Most existing multichannel microphone systems for signal enhancement, sound focusing or noise reduction require a large number of sensors in large spacing to operate and are characterized by their limitation in suppressing spatial noise, especially at low frequencies.
To solve this problem we have developed a post-filtering approach: the cross-pattern coherence algorithm (CroPaC) which measures the coherence between directional microphones towards the direction(s) of interest.
The CroPaC algorithm is simple to implement and offers the capability of coping with multiple interfering sources originating from different directions with or without the presence of background noise.
Method is tested and verified. Demonstration is available under NDA.
